Subsurface

Our own team reads every well

HPL's engineers and geoscientists do the subsurface work on the Oropouche Block in-house, from the first log to the final drilling location.

112Wells with logs read and checked
18Producing sands mapped across the Block
478Sand-top checks against the main fault, all passed
76Seismic lines interpreted for faults
3Sand families tied from well to well

Every candidate location is tested blind, against wells left out of the model, before it is used.

How we evaluate a well

10501100115012001250Sand ASand BSand CGAMMA RAY 0 - 150 APIRESISTIVITY 0.5 - 50 OHM.MFTLow gamma ray and high resistivity mark an oil sand
01

Read the logs

Each well's gamma ray and resistivity logs are read foot by foot. Every sand top is picked, then checked against the wells around it.

FAULTWell 1Well 2Well 3Well 4Sand ASand BSand CThe same sands, followed well to well and across the fault
02

Tie the sands across wells

The sands are followed from well to well. Where a sand steps down suddenly, a fault is drawn and tested against every well nearby.

WELLSYNTHETICFAULTA synthetic trace from the logs lines the well up with the seismic
03

Tie the wells to the seismic

A synthetic trace built from the logs lines each well up with the seismic, so faults and sand edges can be followed between the wells.

04

Map, then rank

Depth maps, faults and compartments give the drilling candidates. Each one is ranked, then tested blind before it goes into a programme.

The land and water come first.

Trinidad's national bird, the scarlet ibis, returns to the coastal mangroves at dusk. Every HPL well plan maps drainage, spill paths and access before work begins, and our EHS Policy applies to every operation.

The surface, the wells and the subsurface in one system

HyperEarth is HPL's own map, field-management and subsurface system. It brings the satellite map, every well and its history, production, the seismic volume, drilling, HSSE and the office's daily work into one place, on a phone, tablet or laptop.

Built in-house by HPL's own team.

Further than the leading commercial subsurface packages

Surface to subsurface in one place

The big packages are built for interpreting the subsurface. HyperEarth also carries the land, roads, production, drilling, HSSE and the office's daily work.

Out in the field

It runs on a phone or tablet at the well site and keeps working without signal, not only at an office workstation.

One shared record

Every well, log, map and decision sits in one record the whole team sees, instead of project files passed between programs.

Built around this Block

Our own team writes it, so a new method or check goes in within days, not at the next vendor release.

Synthetic data

Map and imagery

The whole block on a live satellite map, set on 3D terrain, with every well, road and facility in place.

  • Satellite imagery back to 1984, compared year by year
  • 3D terrain with wells, roads and pads
  • 13 coordinate systems, including the Trinidad local grids
  • Phone, tablet or laptop, online or offline

Every HyperEarth view on this page uses synthetic data generated for illustration. The camera scenes are staged examples, not live feeds or real sites.
